About the Farm

Chimalow Produce started as a subsistence garden in 2016. We grew more than we could eat, so we offered excess produce to our neighbors and friends.   They really enjoyed the produce they received and asked if they could buy from us regularly.   From there we looked for more land to lease and in 2020 Laura officially started Chimalow Produce. By 2024 we were split between 4 properties, growing sales and our crew every year along the way. In that same year we were grateful to have finally secured our permanent home off West Valley Rd in Chimacum, WA.

Since centralizing our operation in 2025 we have been able to invest in critical infrastructure and expand our production. We are currently growing 3 acres of mixed vegetables, herbs and fruits.

True to our name Chimalow, we are still technically split between Chimacum and Port Ludlow as our propagation greenhouse is still based at the original Home Farm.

Currently and as more land comes into production, holistically responsible soil management will remain one of our core values.   To this end we aim to use techniques to encourage the biological life of the soil.   We will do this by being mindful of soil disturbance, addressing deficiencies in the soil, and implementing mycorrhizal-friendly strategies.  We also use cover crops and interplant within crops to keep our species count as high as possible.

Studies and our experience show the result of such techniques are vigorous plants that are naturally disease and pest resistant and have greater yields.   This living soil can in turn produce flavorful, nutritious, and superbly high-quality food.  Customers can literally taste the difference.  A customer said, “They were very sweet and flavorful, the best carrots we bought this year and we’ve bought them from a lot of different farmers.”

MEET THE FARMERS…

Laura Llewellyn

Owner / Farm Manager

Laura started working on farms in 2005. From the beginning she fell in love with the act of growing food. She spent the next 10 years seeking out an education working on farms with the main theme of vegetable production.  Some highlights were when she owned her own farm to table business (The Soup Garden 2009) and managing a production vegetable farm (Red Dog Farm 2011-2015).  Laura also has experience on the retail side of produce from her years managing a produce department (The Food Co-op 2016-2020).

At present Laura does a little bit of everything to keep the farm running from planning, planting, weeding, and harvesting (all with the help of an amazing crew!). Laura also oversees marketing, sales and accounting.

It is with this expanse of knowledge and her love of good food that she brings you Chimalow Produce!
